Day 34: Monteverde, CR Cloud Forest - Saturday December 11, 2010

We awakened to a brilliant day without a cloud in the sky on the Pacific side, but clouds were tied up around Arenal Volcano on the Caribbean side. With the tremendous biodiversity of the cloud forests, Costa Rica is a nature lover’s paradise. The bat jungle and butterfly tours were fascinating. Various types and sizes of humming birds drank the sugar water at the bird feeders during the day and the bats came from as far as 14 KM for drinks at night. Seeing and feeling the bats whiz by up close was the best part of nighttime cloud forest tour. We skipped the sloth and humming bird tours as well as the many zip lines. We are a bit jaded as shoppers; yet still found a few mementos to buy. Tomorrow we head for the Panama border!
