Saturday is market day in Otavalo. After purchasing several quality pieces from the weavers selling at the Cusin Hacienda (where we are staying), our first stop was the animal market where the locals buy and sell animals. The pictures tell all. We then attended the tourist market and the regular market. They were very lively and we continued to help the Ecuadorian economy.
We then went on a wild cuy chase from one little town to another. But the restaurants were closed, as it is market day. We lunched at a roadside eatery – delicious lunch for 2 + 1 large beer - $7.00. I am still having trouble with the Nikon program so the pictures for the rest of the day are in the twilight zone.
There are way too many must see and do things in Ecuador and northern Peru before Justin arrives on January 31st. Quito deserves more time than we will give it as our plan emphasizes indigenous peoples. The colonial aspects have to come from our accommodations such as Cusin Hacienda and Patio Andaluz in Quito. Then on to Cuenca!
