Day 45: Container Stuffing & Arrangements to Cartagena - Wednesday December 22, 2010

We spent over 3 hours at Port Cristobal to stuff the car into the container. Carol noticed that one car in the shipping area had a Nov. 15th date. No way was I not going to personally stuff the car. I took a lot of pictures. Lets hope that it really arrives & is undamaged by Monday.

After a little rest and lunch, we took a beater taxi to the Shelter Bay Marina to see if we could catch someone sailing to Cartagena. Unfortunately the one that would have worked for us left yesterday. We are ready for a change of venue so booked tomorrow’s 3:15 flight from Panama City to Cartagena.

The drive around the Caribe side of the Panama Canal was scenic. Particularly interesting was driving on metal draw bridges going through the Gatun Locks. We were at a rising water level as ships were coming toward the Lock. It was also interesting that Saudis, with mosque, had a beautifully walled residential area in a Colon suburb. I guess that they understand upscale walled neighborhoods near poor people’s housing.
