Day 49: Cartagena

The Naval Museum was really the history of Cartagena and Colombia from a naval perspective. I enjoyed the Spanish perspective of the Elizabethan era. Francis Drake who sacked Cartagena was featured. Apparently it infuriated the King of Spain when Queen Elizabeth knighted Sir Francis Drake for being such a successful corsair with papers.

Carol had delicious Aguadito in a Peruvian restaurant — seafood in cilantro seasoned sauce. Then there was a sudden deluge that lasted an hour.

The city comes alive at night when the air is balmy. We walked the old city’s tourist heaven to find a desirable dinner situation. We had balcony seats overlooking Santa Clara Square where hundreds of dinner tables were filled with happy diners. Three troupes of street performers did their shows. We have seen one of them 3 times – once as the musicians and dancers heralding the bride and groom on a hansom cab, to 3 piece bands worked the tables. It was magical how much fun was being had!

Tomorrow we will work on getting the car. Hopefully, everything is in order and on time.
