The Colima Dog vessels from about 1500 BC are the signature archeological characters of Colima. I bought a couple of copies which will probably end up in the attic. We drove by the 14,000’ active volcano as it would be a whole day trip to hike or drive near the top.
Aviso: Other than the major highways, the road signage in Mexico sucks -- missing signs on crucial turns, combined with bogus navigation maps from Porsche, caused us to get lost 3 times! Even more disappointing is that people here are often wrong on directions when using maps and use landmarks for directions without giving distances. Old tech maps and dead reckoning are the best fall back.
We had a pleasant drive on minor secondary roads through the fertile central highland with its Indian population. Our lunch at El Pollo Feliz (the predecessor of El Pollo Loco) was ordinary. We reached Morelia in the dark, something we try to avoid. We walked around Morelia’s main plaza area for dinner. We are too far up for wi-fi to stay connected. Tomorrow, it is breakfast and some Morelia, then on to Oaxaca.
